SEWCIAL® FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
- What makes Sewcial® the best sewing experience in the area?
There is nothing like Sewcial® in the region. This is not your momma’s crafting circle. Guests will be entertained, empowered, and led through a highly social and energetic class. An amazing, chic project will be completed by the end of the session.
Sewcial® parties are hosted in homes, brew pubs, tap houses, maker spaces and artist studios to allow our guests to BYOB their favorite beverages and snackies, or purchase them at the venue ! Food and drink will be allowed around the machines, though it’s suggested that a separate table be set-up nearby to prevent accidental spilling on your awesome projects.
Lastly and most importantly, there are three undeniable elements that make us a favorite among our guests…Experience, Education and Passion. The owner not only holds a college degree in higher education, but is also a practicing sewist with a passion for creating and teaching you how to create your sewn projects. Melissa has been sewing for 29 years years and has been teaching for almost 15. Her biggest joy for Sewcial® is seeing the finished pieces of Sewcial® participants who didn’t know that they could sew.
- Do I need to sign up in advance?
Yes! Because seating is limited and a Sewcial® may sell out, it is recommended that you sign up in advance in order to reserve your seat.
- What time do I show up?
EARLY is great! It’s highly recommend showing up 15-20 minutes before the Sewcial® if you are bringing your own machine as we try to start class at the designated time AND seating is first come first serve! This also allows you some extra sewcializing time and allows you to get comfortable before the class and gets the instructor familiar with your machine.
- What do I wear?
Wear what makes you feel great. Project sewing is generally not too messy of an art form.
- Can we bring food?
Totally. Feel free to bring in any snacks you wish. If it is a hosted party, you may choose to host however you want. Many people like to have brunches or evening libations.
- What are the prices of a Sewcial® and what does it include?
The Sewcial® costs vary based on the project type and length of class. Prices include a 2-4 hour Sewcial® with professional instruction, all supplies (machines, sewing notions, project kits), complete set up and clean up…Oh, and a masterpiece created by you!
- Can I tip the instructor for doing a great job?
Sewcial® instructors love sharing their knowledge and sewcializing in our communities. We live our lives as parents, spouses, givers and doers. As we all know, tips are generally given when good service is given. We believe that being taught how to sew a project is quite a service indeed! Of course, tips are not mandatory, however if you feel like your instructor deserves a tip then by all means please do.
- What kind of alcoholic beverages can I bring?
You may bring any wine, wine based products, beer or non-alcoholic beverages. Hard alcohol is strongly discouraged around equipment and Sewcial® holds no liability for injuries. Please drink responsibly.
- Do I have to be 21 to join a class?
There are no age restrictions for attending a Sewcial® unless it is held at an age restricted venue. Homeowners hosting are encouraged to use best judgement if alcohol is present. Publically held Sewcial® events are typically held in venues that do not have age restrictions and photo I.D. will likely be required at the establishment for beverages with age restrictions.
- How do I register?
All public and previate Sewcial® events require online pre-registration. Sewcial® will send follow up event details one week prior to the event.
- I don’t drink…can I still attend a Sewcial® ?
Absolutely! Feel free to bring any non-alcoholic beverages and any snacks that you wish! The option to bring wine, beer and snacks is not mandatory, just a very fun perk.
- I don’t know how to use a sewing machine! Are you sure I can do this?
OF COURSE! You need NO experience or skill to attend. Every step is taught by an educated and talented instructor with many breaks throughout the class. Our intention is to take the fear out of sewing. Sewing is fun and that’s exactly what the point of Sewcial®.
- What if I’m late to Sewcial® ?
We highly recommend that you get to the class early to enjoy the company of your besties. We start sewing when the class begins to ensure that participants and instructors can have the best experience and be respectful of each other’s time.
- What is your cancellation policy?
Because our classes are limited seating and require immense preparation, we request that you contact the hostess first or Sewcial® as soon as possible. Your class is transferrable to another Sewcial® .
