Melissa will instruct the entire class and show them how to sew the selected project. I will explain the sewing process and show the group step by step sewing instruction. There are no rules on how our guests would like to sew their masterpiece except to have fun and be safe! Let your creativity run wild! We take breaks throughout the class so that the guests can have some social time with their friends, food, wine and music. The classes range from 2-4 hours long with a price range of $35-$75 a class, depending on the project at hand.
Sewcial Sacramento will initially be hosted for in home parties. Hostess rewards will be offered for booking a required number of seats or when guests purchase future classes or kits.
Frequently Asked Questions:
~ What makes Sewcial Sacramento the best sewing experience in the area?
There is nothing like Sewcial Sacramento in the region. This is not your mama’s crafting circle. Guests will be entertained, empowered, and led through a highly social and energetic class. An amazing, chic project will be completed by the end of the session.
All of Sewcial Sacramento parties will be initially be in private homes to allow our guests to BYOB their favorite wines and beers! Our guests can bring in their own flavors without paying for overpriced bar drinks. Food will also be allowed around the machines though its suggested that a separate table be set-up nearby to prevent accidental spilling on your beautiful projects. We will supply paper plates, cups, napkins, plastic cutlery, plastic wine glasses, bottle openers, for your use. All of these items are complimentary and there are no other hidden fees.
Lastly and most importantly, there are three undeniable elements that make us a favorite among our guests…Experience, Education and Passion. The owner not only holds a college degree in higher education, but is also a practicing sewist with a passion for creating and teaching you how to create your sewn projects. Melissa has been sewing for over 25 years years and has been teaching for almost 15. Her biggest joy is seeing the finished pieces of the guests who didn’t know that they could sew. If you are looking for a good sewing experience, why not go to those who know how to sew! 🙂
~Do I need to sign up in advance?
Yes! Because seating is limited and classes may sell out, it is recommended that you sign up in advance in order to reserve your seat. You can do this by signing up and reserving and paying online by clicking onto the “Calendar” tab from this website. From the visual calendar you can click onto the class which will bring you to the registration form or giving us a call at 916-213-9460 (text preferred).
~What time do I show up?
EARLY is great! It’s highly recommend showing up 15-20 minutes before the class if you are bringing your own machine since we try to start class at the designated time AND seating is first come first serve! This also allows you some extra social time and allows you to get comfortable before the class and gets the instructor familiar with your machine.
~What do I wear?
It is a good idea to wear something that you wouldn’t mind getting threads on; though project sewing is generally not too messy of an art form. Feel free to bring a smock of your own if you are concerned about lint or threads ending up on your clothing.
~Can we bring food?
Of course! Feel free to bring in any snacks you wish.
~What are the prices of a class and what does it include?
The classes costs are from only $35 – $75 and range from 2 – 4 hour classes. See the calendar which has all times and prices. The price includes a 2-4 hour class with professional instruction, all supplies (machines, sewing notions, project kits, and instruction booklets), complete set up and clean up…Oh, and a masterpiece created by you :)…Also the events are BYOB and we allow you to bring your own snacks which makes the experience even more affordable!
~Can I tip the instructor for doing a great job?
Absolutely!! As we all know, tips are generally given when good service is given. We believe that being taught how to sew a project is quite a service indeed! Of course, tips are not mandatory, however if you feel like your instructor deserves a tip then by all means please do.
~What kind of alcoholic beverages can I bring?
You may bring any wine, wine based products, beer or non-alcoholic beverages. Hard alcohol is strongly discouraged around equipment and Sewcial Sacramento holds no liability for injuries. Please drink responsibly.
~Do I have to be 21 to join a class?
When a hosted party includes alcohol, yes.
~Do I have to have a PAYPAL account to pay online?
No! Payment for a class is received through PayPal, but you do not need an account. When paying for a class PayPal will ask you if you have an account. Click No and it will guide you through the process to pay with any major credit card as you would purchase anything online. For those who are not familiar, PayPal is one of the top secure payment companies.
~I don’t drink…can I still attend a class?
Absolutely! Feel free to bring any non-alcoholic beverages and any snacks that you wish! The option to bring wine, beer and snacks is not mandatory, just a very fun perk.
~I don’t know how to use a sewing machine! Are you sure I can do this?
OF COURSE! You need NO experience or background to attend. Every step is taught by an educated and talented instructor with many breaks throughout the class. Our intention is to take the fear out of sewing. Sewing is fun and that’s exactly what the point of these classes are.
~Does Sewcial Sacramento provide alcohol?
No we don’t, however you may bring in your favorite bottle of wine or beer to enjoy throughout the class! We are a BYOB event! You may also bring any non-alcoholic beverages and snacks of your choice.
~What time should I arrive to the class?
It’s recommended to show up about 15-20 minutes early so you can register and pick your choice seat. Seats are first come first serve!
~What if I’m late to a class?
We highly recommend that you get to the class early because we start sewing when the class begins. For example, if the class is from 6pm-9pm, we will start sewing at 6pm. Every minute that you are late, you are missing important information about the project. Not to mention it is a disturbance to the other guests who have come on time and are already sewing. Even if you have some skill in sewing and don’t think that you need instruction, please respect the rest of the class and show up on time.
~What is your cancellation policy?
Because our classes are limited seating, we request that you cancel at least 48 hours before a class which gives us the opportunity to fill the class. You may cancel by phone or online.
~Is there glassware available?
We will provide plastic cups, however if you wish to drink from stemware. You may also bring in your own glassware!
~Is there a refrigerator available to keep beverages cold?
Our hostesses will be able to provide more information.
~Can I reschedule if I don’t show up to the class?
Sorry, we do not reschedule guests who are “No-shows”. Please call us if you plan on not coming to the class. We may have a wait list and we (and the guests waiting) would really like to fill the empty seat. 🙂
~My friends are in a class. Can I hang out with them and not paint?
Unfortunately no. We have allowed guests to hang out in the past and we have come to realize that this can be a disturbance to the other guests in the class. Sorry, if you come to the class, you will be expected to pay for your seat. If we are sold out, there won’t be a seat left to sit in anyway.
